GP Blood Service for Paediatrics
Not all phlebotomists are trained or experienced to take blood from Children under the age of 12 years old, so we do offer another service.
The GP blood service within the Starfish outpatient dept. at the Children’s Hospital for Wales is currently going well.
The service provides GP requested bloods for all children aged 12 and under, Monday to Friday. They currently have 22 appointment slots a day with 2 of these being prioritised for urgent requests.
Patients are currently able to call to make an appointment between the times of 8:30-10:30 am Monday to Friday.
They currently have a 2 week waiting list given the demand and only have two allocated urgent slots a day. The GP will determine whether the bloods are urgent and will notify the department via a direct line; thus the request will be actioned accordingly by the Starfish department.
